On September 17, 2025, an anniversary event was held at Otto von Guericke University in Magdeburg to mark the inauguration of Europe’s first 7-Tesla MRI scanner 20 years ago. In the presence of the university’s rector, Prof. Dr. Jens Strackeljan, researchers and guests from politics, science, and industry gathered to take stock and discuss prospects for the future of imaging in Magdeburg.
With the inauguration of the 7-Tesla MRI Terra. X Impulse Edition (Connectome 7T) in 2023, Magdeburg will once again take on a leading role in Europe in ultra-high-field imaging, according to CRC1436 PI and dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Prof. Oliver Speck. He emphasized the enormous importance of the local research infrastructure for international science and for the local research networks.
