To mark World Alzheimer’s Day on September 21, the research-based pharmaceutical company Lilly is launching the campaign “Before You Forget: Actively Shaping Brain Health.” CRC 1436 spokesperson Prof. Emrah Düzel highlights the importance of this initiative in light of the increasing number of dementia cases in an aging society. However, dementia is not inevitable: A large proportion of the risk factors can be influenced. These include, among others, high blood pressure, hearing loss, as well as alcohol and tobacco use.
The “Before You Forget: Actively Shaping Brain Health” campaign therefore aims to place a stronger focus on prevention and brain health. After all, our brain shapes who we are — it enables us to think, feel, remember, and make decisions.
The message: Brain health shouldn’t only become a concern when the first problems arise. Taking action early can help protect and maintain cognitive and mental health in the long term.
