Visit to Heidelberg – The External Open Lab Day

by Dr. Samia Afzal

The External Open Lab Day at Dr. Kevin Allen’s lab in Heidelberg began with a detailed overview of his research, emphasizing key aspects of sub-projects related to grid cells and place cells, particularly focusing on the integrity of grid cells as a neural resource for navigation and episodic memory. Participants then embarked on a comprehensive lab tour, acquainting themselves with custom-built specialized equipment. The visit included a hands-on experience, allowing participants to engage in the training of mice for a behavioral task and observe electrophysiological recordings from the entorhinal cortex of behaving mice. Overall, participants found the visit engaging and informative, expressing gratitude for the opportunity and commending the coordination team for their efforts in organizing this event.
