We are pleased to announce that our Outstanding Woman in Neuroscience (OWN)-Award of the CRC 1436 was presented to Dr. Erika Atucha by this year’s patron Prof. Dr. Denise Manahan-Vaughan at our CRC General Assembly on October 10, 2023. Prof. Manahan-Vaughan is an internationally renowned neuroscientist from the Department of Neurophysiology at Ruhr University Bochum with roots in Magdeburg. In her presentation, she once again emphasized the important role of women in science and encouraged everyone to continue to focus on this topic in the future.

With the OWN-Award, we honor young outstanding female scientists within our CRC. Dr. Atucha is a postdoc at the Leibniz Institute for Neurobiology in Magdeburg in Prof. Sauvage’s research group and can underline her successful career with numerous publications as well as significant contribution to our sub-project B01 “Connectivity of the medial temporal lobe and prefrontal cortex as a neural resource of recognition memory for recognition”. She writes about herself, “My motivation is to understand how genetic and molecular activities lead to specific neuronal substrates that are relevant for the storage of memories or “engrams”. My long-term dream would be to understand certain cognitive processes so well that we can specifically manipulate and restore them in age-related cognitive decline.”
Congratulations Erika!
