We are glad to share with you the highlights from the recent Brainhack Magdeburg 2024 event held on March 18-19, 2024, at the Ebbinghaus Room, Leibniz Institute for Neurobiology. The event is the result of the hard work and collaborative spirit of the IRTG doctoral students Anwesha Das, Martin Matke, Avinash Kalyani, Aditya Nemali and Margarita Darna with the support of the IRTG coordination office.
Talks: On day 1, Dr. Gabriel Ziegler introduced the participants to the basics of fMRI data analysis. On day 2 Dr. Davide Ciliberti presented the recent advancements in the field of real-time detection of hippocampal replay patterns for closed-loop experiments. Participants appreciated not only the talks but also the speakers’ openness to addressing the numerous questions and curiosities they had!
Learning and Collaboration: Participants worked in teams on 3 different types of datasets: block-design fMRI, neuronal recording, or protein expression data. These open hacking sessions were rich in discussions, problem-solving, and were also an important moment for sharing knowledge among peers of all levels of expertise – The leadership and organizational skills of the dataset leaders, Anwesha Das, Avinash Kalyani and Aditya Nemali were fundamental in creating the team spirit and facilitating the collaboration!
Wrap-Up and Presentations: At the conclusion of the event, each group presented their findings, showcasing their analyses and discussing the challenges they encountered along the way.
– A special shoutout is reserved for Dimas Esteban, who demonstrated exceptional dedication by carrying out the analyses of dataset 3 single-handedly!
